Curated by Telemaco Rendine and Valentina Ferrari, with critical contributions by Ruggero Barberi, Matteo Di Cintio and Miriam Pinocchio, in collaboration with Nuar Gallery. August 1 to October 15, 2024

The Museum of Women’s Entrepreneurship in Muravera is pleased to announce the solo exhibition “Domus Ardet” by Ak2deru. The exhibition will be on view from August 1 to October 15, 2024 and promises to offer a unique immersive experience exploring the depths of human essence.

The exhibition transports visitors into a symbolic, immersive world where the meaning of ritual is explored through the elements of fire of sign-matter and voice.

As critic Matteo Di Cintio stated, “Ak2deru stages a play of forces and symbolic references that unveil the ancestrality of a ritual.” In the work of the Sardinian artist, the sense of ritual is folded into the encounter between the human being and his own ancient remnant.

Fire-a central element of the exhibition and a symbol of transformation of matter in its cycles of continuous creation and destruction, which has always been at the center of the artist’s research-is explored in its composite of ash, charcoal and combustion.

Combustion characterizes the body of works on display, created on various materials: papers, canvases, cork, wood, leather and recycled skins, in variations of contrasting works ranging from the macro to the micro.

The sign is present in every work exhibited, in a pictorial work defined by the artist himself as “monosematic”-from the Greek mónos “one only” sèma “sign”-founding its roots in the repetition of a single sign, a segment of a portion of infinity, an archetype that reverberates and saturates the entire surface.

Central piece of the exhibition itinerary is the video art work “Domus ardet” – hence the title of the exhibition – The immersive work, accompanied by the sound of two microtonal choirs, presents images of volcanic explosions and lava flows that deform to create animalistic and anthropomorphic figures in combustion. This dreamlike element, placed in an installation context that envelops the viewer, causes the latter to confront an estranging and intense perception of fire as an inner force.

The sound dimension of the work by Ak2deru, who trained in music composition with Gian Paolo Chiti and Alvin Curran, is also represented by the audio tracks Codex 121101 and Codex 229002. These expanded sounds, through unconventional vocal emission techniques, create a primitive madrigal of voices, an ancestral counterpoint that refers to a primal rituality, expanding the exhibition space through immanent vibrations.

Ak2deru (stage name of Francesco Careddu) was born in Tempio Pausania, Sardinia, on November 2, 1975. He has lived and worked in Rome since 1998. He studied at the Liceo Artistico in Tempio Pausania and from 1998 to 2008 musical composition with Gian Paolo Chiti and Alvin Curran. Founder of the cultural association Dal Suono Sommerso, active in the contemporary music scene from 2007 to 2012. From 2008 to 2015 he was assistant composer to Alvin Curran.
