From the “premiere” in Villasalto last summer to the awards received at international film festivals: the docufilm “Only Stones” by Gabriele Carrus, a young director from Muravera, won major awards at the Abu Dhabi International Film (UAE) and the Queen City Film Festival (Cincinnati, Ohio). At other festivals, in countries such as India, Russia, and England, it was selected for the finals in categories such as best director, screenplay, and soundtrack.

The film, produced by Carrus in collaboration with the Limen Sarrabus Gerrei association, was shot among the mines of Villasalto and the most striking places in Gerrei and Sarrabus. Set in 1940, it tells the story of Luigi (played by Giuseppe Farci, with Letizia Collu), a Sardinian mining engineer sent to Sardinia to increase antimony production ahead of the war. This trip rekindles his passion for the Nuragic civilization.

The screenplay is by Massimo Mazzoni, photography by Luca Valdes, and the soundtrack by Gabriele Di Girolamo. For Carrus, this success is a great satisfaction: “I am happy,” says the director, “that the film is also appreciated across the ocean. It is a way to make the history of Sardinia and the beauty of its archaeological sites known all over the world.”
